Een Visual Scene Display (VSD) is een afbeelding of foto van een bekende scène met opgeslagen boodschappen om functionele communicatie aan te moedigen. Deze foto's zijn meestal persoonlijke afbeeldingen, waardoor de persoon kan communiceren over dingen die voor hem/haar/hun belangrijk zijn. Het idee is dat de persoon ‘hotspots’ (doelwitten) op het beeld activeert die hen vervolgens voorzien van relevante woordenschat.
